Abstract
The purpose of the article is to study the process of formation and to identify the role of traditional moral values among Russian students, as well as to determine the directions of their development. Traditional values are therefore to be defined as stable ideas about family relations, social roles and hierarchy, justice, humanism, mercy and patriotism, historically formed in Russian culture and passed down from generation to generation. Research methods: Sociological research conducted at the Department of Sociology and Social Technologies in the online questionnaire - 486 respondents (Orel, February 2025) and in-depth interviews - 12 informants (March 2025). The subject of the study: the formation of such traditional values as patriotism, historical memory, and national unity, highlighting their importance and role in the lives of modern youth, as well as identifying key directions for strengthening these values. Because of sociological research, it is revealed that according to students' opinions, the main factors uniting different peoples and ethnicities of Russia are common history (61%), culture and traditions (57%) and shared values (55.5%). As a result, the authors reveal that traditional values remain a significant element in shaping the morals and attitudes among student youth, and their development requires modern innovative approaches. Furthermore, the authors emphasize that integrating patriotic education into educational programs, utilizing digital resources for studying history, organizing interethnic projects, and cultural exchanges represent the most effective directions for fostering traditional values within the student environment. The findings can be used to study the regional characteristics of value orientations of youth and develop specific methods to strengthen them.
