COSSACK ORGANIZATIONS IN THE CONSOLIDATION OF CIVIL SOCIETY

Abstract

The purpose of the article is determining the role of the Cossack movement in the consolidation of civil society. In expert society Cossacks are often defined as a cultural-historical community and as a sub-ethnic group. In the article Cossack organizations are considered as one of the most organized segments of civil society. The most promising areas of activity of Cossack organizations include education, patriotic education, interaction with the church and cultural and educational activities. It is proved that modern Cossacks build their identity based on cultural and historical memory. This feature determines the significant role of the Cossacks in the consolidation of civil society in modern Russia. The author notes that the political life of the Cossacks is successfully developing in the institutional framework of the Russian political system. The results obtained by the author can be applied in the field of building constructive relations of cooperation between state and municipal authorities with civil organizations.
