The purpose of the article is to identify the political significance of the meeting of representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Anglicans in September 1943. This event was important for the development of foreign policy interaction between the USSR and Great Britain, as well as for softening the atheistic policy of the Soviet government. In the Soviet Union during the events of the summer of 1943, additional consolidation of society was necessary. The country's leadership elevated Sergius Stragorodsky to the rank of Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia. Religious relief was an additional factor to strengthen the consolidation of society in that period. It also became a counterbalance to the policies of the occupiers in the occupied territories where churches were restored, and toleration was practiced. The political maneuver of changing the actions of the leadership of the USSR was the possibility of the Anglican Church, which is the state, being positioned towards itself. Indeed, after the meeting in Moscow, London’s views on the opening of the Second Front in Europe changed. The Soviet government used the dialogue between the Russian Church and the Anglicans in order to achieve its foreign policy goals.Downloads
