SOCIAL ACTIVISM OF THE ELDERLY POPULATION OF THE BELGOROD REGION

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to substantiate the importance of social activism of the elderly people for themselves and society as a whole. As forms of social activism participation in recreational mass events, in the work of public associations, various civil initiatives are considered. Methodology analysis of social activism is carried out on the basis of empirical data collected during questionnaires in the Belgorod region in the period from 2010 to 2017. It is proved that the low social activity of the elderly is a consequence of the underdevelopment of the activist culture among the bulk of the population. However, participation in community work causes some interest among the elderly people. Among the most significant reasons hampering their social activity are the lack of awareness of the activities being implemented, ways to actualize the potential inherent in public participation practices, and their perception of the low effectiveness of such practices.
