Abstract

The purpose of the article is to identify the main characteristics of the situation of the poor population in the context of the transformation of the social structure of modern Russian society. To obtain the most complete picture of the problem of poverty, a comparative analysis of the situation of the poor and the rest of the population is carried out according to a complex of integrative objective (socio-demographic, material-property) and subjective (self-identification) criteria and subcriteria. This analysis made it possible to reveal the following features of the situation of the poor population: increased dependency burden; low level of financial standing, which can be defined as "... there is barely enough money for food"; inability to use paid social services; underestimated level of self-identification and assessment of their own prospects in the future. The conclusion is made that the transformation processes are not completed, and the social structure of modern Russian society cannot be called stable. On the contrary, the number of the poor is not only not decreasing, but continuing to increase. It is necessary to conduct regular monitoring studies of poverty in order to promptly adjust the state policy to reduce the number of the poor.
