The purpose of the article is to consider issues relevant to the international geopolitical discourse related to ensuring food security at the global level. The author highlights and examines the main elements and functions of the global food security management system. In his opinion, this system is based on specialized UN structures. Country groupings such as G8 (G7), G20, BRICS have become actively involved in promoting food security strategies and policies in recent years. The author believes that, although the system has been in the process of changes and modernization for more than 70 years of its existence, it remains imperfect and does not adequately ensure global food security. Quantity of people experiencing various problems of malnutrition and hunger remains critically high. The key contemporary problems affecting the provision of global food security are highlighted. These include the growing number of armed conflicts around the world, global climate change, as well as new economic and political challenges associated with the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. A number of promising solutions for leveling food problems have been identified. In particular, proactive policies are needed at the international, regional and national levels. As a result, it was indicated that, within the framework of the global food security management system, it is reasonable to expand the mechanisms of social protection and humanitarian assistance, to adjust the programs of child and school nutrition implemented by specialized UN organizations.Downloads
