THE EUROPEAN UNION AND THE EURASIAN ECONOMIC UNION IN THE CIS: THE CONTENT OF COMPETITION

Abstract

The purpose of the study is a comprehensive analysis of the integration strategies of Russia and the European Union in the CIS, the identification of political, economic and geopolitical contradictions between them and the development of scientific recommendations for adjusting the foreign policy of the Russian Federation in the post-Soviet region. The subject of the research is the content of the competition of integration projects of the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union in the post-Soviet space. The author uses the method of structural analysis to highlight key aspects and levels of the phenomenon of competition between integration projects of Russia and the European Union in the post-Soviet space, as well as a comparative method for processing an array of methodological techniques used in scientific literature to study the integration policies of modern states and their associations. The author analyses the background and causes of the expansion of pan-European institutions in the FSU countries of Russia, which are associated with the end of the Cold War and the inclusion of Eastern Europe in the sphere of influence of the European Union. It is concluded that the success of the integration project of the Eurasian Economic Union will depend on the ability of Russia to consistently and effectively implement the partnership strategy with the post-Soviet states. The results of the research can be applied in developing recommendations for adjusting the integration strategies of the Russian Federation in the FSU countries.
