The article deals with the processes of transformation of the cultural and civilizational identity of the population of the border regions of Russia and Ukraine. The subject of the article is the analysis of the causes and consequences of the fragmentation of the identity of the population of the Russian-Ukrainian borderland. The purpose of the article is to identify the contradictions that cause changes in the identity of the population of border regions. A study of cultural and civilizational identity in conditions of transboundary dynamics and transcultural communication is proposed. The results of own sociological research, which allows to reveal differences in the cultural and civilizational identity of the population of the borderland, are presented. The reasons for the fragmentation of the identity of the population of the Russian-Ukrainian borderlands are substantiated: liminality, strengthening of the external influence on the identification of the population and activation of the protective mechanism of identity. Possible positive and negative consequences of the fragmentation of the identity of the population of the borderland are given. The results of the research can be used to develop projects of public diplomacy and cross-border cooperation between Russia and Ukraine, as well as for further research of the cultural and civilizational identity of the population of the Russian border zone.Downloads
