Abstract

The article gives an analysis of the current situation, as well as the prospects for strengthening and expanding twin cities located on the border territories, which can be used as an effective tool for the development of these territories. Historical and international experience is analyzed. The authors results of own sociological research (2016 and 2017), conducted with the aim of revealing the attitude of the population of the border municipalities of the Belgorod region and Belgorod to issues related to twin cities of the borderland, and their relevance and significance for the development of cross-border and inter-municipal cooperation.
